High Definition Medical Video Display and Transmission

HD-MedCom The application of high-definition (HD) video system in laparoscopic surgery where the surgeon has to recognize visual tissue differences judging from the video image results in improved surgical dexterity compared to 3-chip-CCD video systems. HD video systems consisting of a real HD-camera and an HD-monitor provide an improved image quality in laparoscopic surgery. Based on the interactive video communication system WinVicos a transmission system for real-time transmission of HD-video data shall be developed and tested. Interfaces for the HD cameras and monitors in OP 2000 shall be adapted. Med-HD For the clinic external real-time video transmission via existing networks a compression of the video data is required. Based on the interactive video communication system WinVicos a codec for the Coding of HD-video data shall be implemented and tested.
